Paperback. Condizione: Very Good condition. Anderson, John A (photography by) (illustratore). Fourth printing. Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1989. Very Good condition. Bright, clean, tight, square, unmarked copy. No store stamp, owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Softcover. 7" wide by 10" tall. Magnificently illustrated with 234 photos and 3 maps. From 1891 until 1948, John A. Anderson lived on the Rosebud, recording the daily lives and activities of the Indians. Most of this volume (pages 17-313) consists of Anderson's photographs, with painstaking captions and detailed explanatory notes. The photos, most taken between 1885 and 1910, record the transition of the Brule Sioux from the free, nomadic warriors fresh from the Battle of the Little Big Horn to the subjugated remnants of the tribe compelled to live on a reservation. There are photos of everyday activities (farming, ranching, butchering), famous Indians, as well as the unusual -- White Buffalo, Sun, and Omaha dance ceremonies, etc. This book also includes two introductory chapters: John A. Anderson: A Brief Biography, and The Brule Sioux: A Brief Account. Volume 111 in The Civilization of the American Indian Series. Index. Fourth printing. Softcover. Very Good condition. Illus. by Anderson, John A (photography by). xxxi, 320pp .
