Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good+ dj. First Edition. [solid clean copy with just minor shelfwear; jacket a little edgeworn, one small closed tear at bottom of front panel, minor paper loss at top spine corners, wrinkling and small stress lines at top of spine, one tiny chip at top of rear panel] Novel of an aspiring opera singer who falls in love and elopes with the son of a noble Spanish family, heedless of "the danger of incurring the hatred of his mother, the all-powerful Doña Juanita -- a hatred that was to pursue her in her dazzling career as an opera singer, and to play such havoc with her personal life." I've seen it stated that the author, who was English but lived in the U.S. from 1911, may have done a bit of screenwriting under another name; she was slightly showbiz-adjacent (her husband was a minor stage actor named Dennis Cleugh, who died at age 47 in 1928), so it's not a completely outlandish idea -- just unconfirmed, at least by me. NOISBN.
