Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. Wilfred Funk, Inc., New York, New York, USA. Fine. No Dust Jacket. 1961 Reprint (year of author's inauguration as President of the United States of America) from original publication in 1940, with a new Foreword to the 1961 Edition by Henry Luce (publishing magnate, owner of Time, Life and Fortune magazines), with Excerpts from the Foreword to the Original Edition, also by Henry Luce. Number "2" in the middle of the copyright page, signifying a second printing. The Text Block is white, tight, straight and square, with no markings of any kind. The first two signatures of the text block are whiter than the remaining signatures, presumably because the remaining signatures were unbound leftovers from the original 1940 edition and bound together with new signatures needed for the new Foreword to the 1961 Edition, Excerpts from the Original Foreword, and revised Table of Contents. This would make it a rare, hybrid copy. Binding is full, light gray cloth, showing only the slightest sunning, with bright blue and red title, etc., to spine, and having sharp, square corners all around. No Dust Jacket. xxviii, [4], 252 pages, including Appendix and Bibliography. See photos. 5 11/16" x 8 1/2". John F. Kennedy's first book, published the year he graduated from Harvard, and playing on the title of Winston Churchill's While England Slept. Inter-war and World War II History, showing the dangers of appeasement.
