It is bound in quarter leather (possibly pig skin?) - gilt embossed to the spine over unusual wooden boards so something of a mid twentieth century 'one-off'. The upper edge dyed brown as it should be. A neat ink gift inscription to the head of the half-title page to include a Longfellow quote. The original glassine jacket is now very shelf worn with notable tears and dust soiling, but I can't quite make myself throw it away and it has in point of fact done a great job in protecting the rest of the book. A little spotting to the leading fore-edge. A well preserved copy in good only jacket.
