The former executive director of a residential treatment program for emotionally disturbed and abused children, he has helped set up hospitals, schools, famine relief programs, and communities for orphaned or blind children in Africa, Australia, Europe, India, Israel, Russia, South America, and the United States. His national radio program, syndicated by Air America Radio, is carried on more than eighty stations across the United States as well as on Sirius Satellite Radio. Hartmann lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Louise, and his attack cat, Higgins.
