Although some parts of the poem, including "The Heights of Macchu Picchu", have been translated, this is the first time the Canto has appeared in its entirety in English. The three hundred or so poems of the fifteen-part Canto, written between 1938 and 1950, constitute a visionary interpretation of Latin America.
