Riassunto: A long-awaited reprint of this standard work of reference on Minton, its works, designers, history and its founders, written with the full co-operation of the Royal Doulton Group using their archives. Founded in the late 18th century, Minton's fortunes were inextricably linked with three men: Thomas Minton, the founder, his son Herbert and Colin Minton Campbell. From modest beginnings as a pottery in Stoke-on-Trent it became one of the world's leading ceramics companies famous for its use of bone china and, under the innovative leadership of Herbert Minton, successful experimentation into both tile and Parian production. Employing some of the most famous names in nineteenth century ceramics history, the talents and expertise of its staff enabled the company to rise to heights of international eminence unknown by any other ceramics manufacturer since Wedgwood. Extensive research, using the Minton archives, provides a study of the personalities concerned with the running of the business and new biographical material has been utilised in the section devoted to the artists and their work. A separate section covers the vast range of wares made at Minton over the last 200 years.
Sinossi: A revision of the standard reference work on Minton, its works, designers, history and its founders. In this book the authors chart the triumphs, the solid achievements, the successes and failures of this outstanding company, employers of some of the most famous names in 19th-century ceramics.
