Riassunto: An introduction to the spectacular culture of the Philippines examining various aspects including climate, farming and industry, history, religions, food and peoples. Contains full color illustrations and photographs in 33-page interior depicting Filipino culture. This book, first in the Sarimanok Series was proposed and authored by Filipino-Americans, Dr. Leonor Testa-Feliciano and Theresa San Luis, M.A.
About the Author: Leonor Testa-Feliciano, M.D., is a retired psychiatrist who has spent most of her life raising her family, serving the Asian-American, Filipino-American community and general St. Louis community in civic activities as well as educating educators and the community about Filipino arts and culture. Through the 30 years that she has lived in St. Louis, she has involved herself in her children's school activities. It was then that she discovered the difficult, if not impossible task of identifying resources that can be used by teachers and students to learn about their Filipino-American neighbors. She has witnessed the growth of the Asian-American population, and resources of information; but found that, sadly, this was not true for Filipino-American resources. This book is an attempt to share the beautiful Filipino culture and reveal the commonality it has with others; to provide some activities and games for schoolchildren; and just allow others to understand the Filipino culture better. Theresa San Luis, M.A., is a Filipino-American who has spent time educating others about Filipino culture. Involved with the International Festival at the University of Illinois at Springfield, she received Honors with her master's degree in Communication from International Student Services. She also visited the Philippines in 2001. Theresa has authored various articles for newspapers, composed lyrics for her original compositions, and written stories and poems as a graduate of English and music from the University of Notre Dame.
