Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888-1965) remains a central figure in the history of modernist literature and culture. His most celebrated work remains his long poem, The Waste Land (1922), though contemporary audiences may also associate his name with the Broadway Musical Cats (1981), a play inspired by his book of poems, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (1939). Eliot also wrote numerous plays. Sweeney Agonistes is Eliot's first attempt at composing verse drama. He never completed the play but the two scenes he wrote were compiled in this volume for publication in 1932. Codice articolo 112818
