Su questo libro:

Riassunto: The story is about the shooting at the Ten Mile School near Baxley, Georgia on January 6, 1933 of which one man died and one woman was injured (spinal injury) and lived for twenty five years until her death at fifty four years old as told by her youngest daughter. This accounts for the trials and tribulations put on this family from that fateful night. This book contains some history and family association to seven wars. The Civil War, Revolutionary War, World War One, World War Two, Korean War, Vietnam War and Afghanistan War. This is a true story and is dedicated to my daughter Cheryl Ann (Sherry) Kesling. She has encouraged me to put my memories in writing. I was very young when most of this happened so some parts of this story are memories of my sister Ruby Youmans Hallman (deceased). I also gathered information from family members, as well as some notations made by family members, and genealogy. Most of all my information was from my mother in the many years that I was with her and helping to take care of her. I might note that I could have almost been my father s great grandchild. The age difference between my mother and father is one reason this story takes us so many years back. He was born July of 1879 and his ideas and values of life were much different than my mother which was born on 1904. I would like to mention that he was a dedicated family man and went through some very trying times. He always saw that my momma had what she wanted and needed. I once said (he would bring her strawberries in January if she wanted them.) I would like to mention my father s mother, grandma Kizzah, she raised nine children and after her mother and father died, and while some of the children were still home she took care of two old maid sister. Those were sisters to Kizzah. When one of her daughters died at childbirth she raised three girls. She was getting pretty old when she took on that task. It took me many years to write my memories because of many stupid mistakes I made in life, but I kept looking forward and never gave up. Life is good now. I am happy at eighty two. If I had my life to live over I would have strived for more education because that is the key to success.

L'autore: Doris Youmans was born in Georgia in 1930. Doris was a farmer s daughter born in the same log cabin her father was born in. Raised by an elderly father and paralyzed mother. She was the youngest of five children. She had two brothers and two sisters. One sister died many years before she was born. She never remembers seeing her mother walk. She and her brothers and sister had the hardship of doing most of the jobs required by adults. She dreamed of going to school to further her education, but felt that that could never be achieved. Since she was the youngest daughter she was destine to care for her mother and father. Finally at a young age she felt that she had to change this but, sometimes matters only got worse. She did steal some satisfaction out of life regardless of the hardships and circumstances. Despite of all the handicaps Doris was able to get equivalent to an Associate of Arts Degree in college. She concentrated on the psychology subject in order to better herself. She was able to hold a manager s position at Motorola for twenty nine years.
