Riassunto: Jonathan Wordsmythe had few aspirations other than to live out life, pressed into service as a criminal in a gang ridden school, until he discovers he can stop time with a spoken command. He saves a fellow classmate from being killed by a rival gang by freezing bullets in mid-air. Unbeknownst to him, the shooting was staged by an evil man trying to discover if Jonathan possessed the same magical powers as his master. Jonathan is soon met by another old man named Mel Astor claiming to be from a different world, and also claims Jonathan is from the same place. Mel has been protecting Jonathan and is back to help him return home. Jonathan learns he is not from Earth, but from Tylloren, a separate world where magic in the form of the ?Word? is alive, and magnificent?or terrible. Jonathan learns he is the son of a dictator, Azakhet, and is destined to confront his father and a maddened God who is bent on the destruction of humanity. Jonathan is faced with the reality that nothing about his life to that point has been true, even his mother is actually just a guardian to help protect and prepare Jonathan. Jonathan learns that Azakhet rules Tylloren with an iron hand and unconscionable brutality, bent on gaining the very powers that kinder and gentler Gods have placed on earth for Jonathan to find and use to defeat their maddened brother Inno. Jonathan was hidden on Earth to protect him from his father until the time came for him to return, fully capable as a Wordsmythe, to do battle and fight for the people of Tylloren. But things have gone terribly wrong! Jonathan is a mere eighteen years old when it is time for him to return to Tylloren and Jonathan has practically no knowledge of how to use his powers. Azakhet and his right-hand crony, Sven, aren?t waiting around. They have discovered Jonathan and know of the prophecy surrounding him. Sven attacks, forcing Mel Astor to get Jonathan home despite his inabilities. Using a magical sentient airship piloted by Aaron Airloft, they break through a wormhole to return to Tylloren, only to crash-land in the Midlands, a subterranean cavern existing underneath the main continents of Tylloren. Jonathan is thrown from the airship in the crash, and now in addition to having no abilities, is alone and lost from his companions. He must traverse the pitch-black and arid salt-flats, find new friends and the strength to continue on when he doesn?t know the people, the customs, or his own powers. He has help along the way, but the world is spinning out of control, forcing Jonathan to make choices he?s never had to make before, about things he?s never had to care about. Far away now from the comfort of inglorious success as a gang-member, he must rise to the new occasion everyone expects of him and become the True Wordsmythe. The Wordsmythe Chronicles Book 1: Returning Home is the first in a series detailing Jonathan?s adventures and the fight against Azakhet and the mad God, Inno.
