When the authors' book sub-titled " An Historical Survey of the Railway Engine in New Zealand from 1863" was first published in 1956 it won high regard as an important contribution to this topic. Ten years later, soon after the centennial of rail in NZ, this revised and enlarged edition was released with new illustrations and text matter and extending the coverage to 160 diffrent types of locomotives. As with the first edition, this revision proved equally popular and collectable. Some of the locomotive types included were described or illustrated for the first time. Second, revised and enlarged edition of 1965. 174 pages including index of lococomotives and index of locomotive makers, illustrated throughout with b/w photos, colour art frontis by WW Stewart, sketch, pictorial front e/papers, map rear e/papers. Blue hard covers with gilt spine titles VG+, with tiny fade mark spine top, small insect erosion marks top corner front pastedown also top of FFEP, text block otherwise excellent, no inscriptions. VG pictorial DJ also carries three locomotive profile plans, light wear to edges/hinges one short tear, few chips.
