Softcover. Condizione: very good condition. Bantam Air & Space Series 1 - This book was first published in 1969 - - The twentieth Century has bred a new race of men - men who fly - men who have developed an astonishing range of skills and daring to match the astounding pace of technological development that has come from the Wright brothers' 30-mile-an-hour 350-foot flight to landing an astronaut on the moon. - After World War II the greatest challenge for any civilian pilot lay in the far North, flying missions that taxed the best of their piloting skills and courage. They learned to navigate their little planes under icy conditions of murderous white-fog, mountainous terrain and horrendous weather. Whatever else the Arctic demanded of them, the first commandment of staying alive was that they know how to fly. - This is the thrilling story of one such pilot. 351 p. some illustrations.

One of Alaska's first and certainly one of its greatest bush pilots was this adventurer and explorer, author of the bestselling 1969 "Last of the Bush Pilots." Signed postage stamp, 1½" X 1", n.p., n.y. Fine. Mint example of the 1954 "Lewis and Clark Expedition" three-cent U.S. postage stamp, which depicts the explorers standing in front of their boat along a rugged coastline and is printed entirely in brown. Across the sky, Helmericks signs boldly with his handsome, minute signature. A superb, tiny example on an appropriate philatelic item.
