Leather on spine beginning to detach, reinforced by a local bookbinder. Text block is solid and free of any marks. Housed in the publisher's blue cloth slipcase. This book is from a limited edition of 2000 copies, this being number 1103. Signed by the author and President Ford on the translucent overlay for the half-title. It does not appear that President Ford signed every limited edition, only a handful. President Gerald R. Ford (1913-2006) spent much of his vacation time and eventual retirement in Vail, Colorado. While in the White House, the Ford family took frequent trips to Colorado. After losing the presidency in 1976, he built a retirement home in Beaver Creek, which remained in the family until his death in 2006.

Gratefully, June Triplett per Corey Ford.Ó Connelly was a founding member, along with Robert Benchley and Dorothy Parker, and others of the literary group known as the Algonquin Round Table, and is best known for his biblical fantasy The Green Pastures and for The Farmer Takes a Wife, in addition to his many successful collaborations with George S. Kaufman. A lightly used copy with some darkening to the spine with some tiny tears and a bit of fraying at its top and bottom and with some light wear to the extremities in a very good price-clipped dust jacket with some chipping. A campy literary spoof illustrated with black & white photographs and photograph collages of the explorer/adventure genre with a comic cast of characters including ÒChester Drawers, the expeditionÕs professional stowawayÓ, Britches, Ego, the Missing Link, Harry Ape, and others. Also, notably posing as characters in the book are famous aviatrix Amelia Earhart as one of the expeditionÕs pilots and entertainer Jimmy Durante as Scarface Jimmy, JuneÕs smiling trainer and crack wildlife hunter, and Jack Dempsey as the chimp.
