Catalogue and descriptive account of a private collection of Staffordshire figure pottery owned by Sir Harold Vincent Mackintosh, Bt. (1891-1964), from 1957 Viscount Mackintosh of Halifax, owner of the confectionary firm of John Mackintosh and Sons Ltd. of Halifax. The collection includes the work of the Burslem family of potters, renowned for their figures, Ralph Wood I (1715-72) and Ralph Wood II (1748-95). Will appear smart when work completed. Overall, - a lovely signed copy with little use - in a scarce dustwrapper. [English Pottery] INSCRIBED LIMITED EDITION. Quarto (30 x 25cm), pp.xviii; 122 [2]. With five fine colour plates, including a frontispiece, and eleven further black and white photographic plates, all with captioned tissue guards. Number 15 of just 100 copies thus, SIGNED and dated by the author in blue ink, and additionally INSCRIBED to his paternal uncle Rev. (and Mrs.) J.E. Mackintosh in the same hand. Publisher's red cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper. Fore and lower edges untrimmed. With the plain typographic dust-jacket, priced at 21s. A clean copy internally, with just a few small blue ink marks to one plate. Jacket toned and rubbed to spine and edges, with a number of large closed tears and losses around the spine in particular. Reinforcing strips applied to reverse jacket edges, and one old tape repair to rear cover. Very good.

From the Preface: IN acceding to the invitation of the Harrogate Municipal Art Committee to exhibit my collection of Ralph Wood and other early Staffordshire pottery figures, my pleasure was enhanced by the fact that the exhibition supplied the necessary impetus to prepare this descriptive book, a task which I am afraid I should not otherwise have attempted.
