Typescript. Condizione: Good. 2pp. The author claims he met De Valera in the house of a friend and that he appeared in good health & as cheerful as possible for any Irishman to be in the present state of the country. "He discussed with me the military and political situation without reserve.Ireland's destiny is to be free.she would right herself in spite of the troubles now passing." With regard to the Irish Constitution Dev comments that the straight bold course is the best 7 if needs to be changed then go honestly about revising it. He says that the Treaty will mean violent political agitation and turmoil for Ireland for years to come that will make cultural, spiritual & material progress impossible, He comments on a letter from General Smuts with recommendations re the Treaty that was rejected by the last Dail. he states that in the Last Dail there was very little attempt to discuss the Treaty on its merits as an effort of statesmanship, or to calculate its bearings on the future. Side issues of a personal and party character obscured the main consideration. For Griffith & for Dev the securing of a united Ireland was of first importance. However Griffith was later led away by the chimera of the Boundary Commission which he hoped would take Fermanagh & Tyrone & other areas from the Northern territory & brigh partition to an end later, automatically. He goes on to comment on English politicians running away from their pledges made in private. He continues with further comment on the coercion of both North & South and other matters and conlcudes staiting "If the millions spent in the European war.devoted.for social wants what a different world we would have today." Original typescipt held together with a somewhat rusty pin. Top margin edges nicked & creased. Occasional stains.
