First edition. Deluxe edition limited to 50 copies. Publisher's full brown leather with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with colour and black and white plates throughout. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout and without previous owners' marks. The deluxe issue, limited to only 50 copies of which this is number 44 (XLIV); the regular issue, bound in cloth was limited to 1500 copies. An important reference work, offered here in its most desirable issue. This volume is the first of the legendary Baur collection catalogues to deal with Japanese art. It illustrates and describes 1,200 selected netsuke from the collection covering all manufacturing centres and is particularly rich in netsuke created by artists who lived in the second part of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century in Osaka and Tokyo.
