The culmination of works by more than fifty specialists and foremost scholars in their respective fields, this work is, after the 'Oxford English Dictionary', the most important reference work on English Literature. This five volume set contains a comprehensive list and classification of British authors, each entry containing a bibliography and a chronological list of secondary material on the subject and their works. A mixed edition set, with volume I published in 1974, II in 1972, III in 1969, IV in 1971, and V in 1977. Complete with original dustwrappers designed by Michael Harvey, price-clipped to volume II and IV. Volumes I to III were edited by George Watson, with volume IV additionally edited by I. R. Willison, and J. D. Pickles to volume V. Volume IV has been misbound, with the text block bound upside down. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with original dustwrappers, price clipped to volume II and IV. Externally, lovely, very slightly faded and bumped to head and tail of spines.
