Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: g. First edition. Quarto. XVI, 372pp. Original pictorial wrappers. Half-title page inscribed and signed in Hebrew by the author. The Moroccan Jewish community during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries was the largest Jewish community in North Africa, though it always constituted a small minority among its Muslim neighbors (Tsur, 2001). In the absence of formal statistics, it has been estimated that approximately 120,000 to 130,000 Jews lived in Morocco at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Formal statistics calculated later revealed that 160,000 Jews lived there in 1936 (Hatal, 1964) and 240,000 in 1952 (Laskier, 1983). As a result of emigration to Israel and other countries, the number decreased to 160,000 by 1960 (Laskier), but it nevertheless remained the largest Jewish community in the region. Minor creasing and age-toning on wrappers. Wrappers in overall good, interior in very good condition. About the Alliance Israélite Universelle: Political organization founded in France in 1860 for the purpose of providing assistance to Jews. Its founders were a group of French Jews who had the resources to help those who were poor, offering political support, helping individuals emigrate, and eventually setting up Jewish education programs in eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. In 1945 it expressed support for political Zionism (the establishment of a Jewish state), and in 1946 its diplomatic activities were taken over by the Consultative Council of Jewish Organizations in New York City.

Softcover. Condizione: g+ to vg. First edition. Quarto. [6], 1625-2116pp. Original printed wrappers, with publisher's logo on front cover and title page. This is the fourth volume of Shlomo Simonsohn's monumental undertaking which relates the history of papal Jewry policy in the Middle Ages and Renaissance from the days of Gelasius I to those of Julius III. It contains letters issued by three of the Renaissance popes: Adrian VI, Clement VII, and Paul III (Part One). The letters in this volume illustrate the dual role of the papacy, both protecting and limiting the privileges of the Jews. Each letter is in its original language - Latin - but is preceded by an explanatory text in English. Some moderate sunning to wrappers. Wraps in overall good+, interior in very good condition.

Libro Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Near fine. First edition. Octavo. x, (6075)-6805, (1)pp. Indices. Text in English and Italian. Blue cloth lettered in gilt, publisher's device on front cover. An ex-library copy but with minimal markings (rubber stamp on title page & bottom of text block), otherwise fine. Note: each of the five parts of the, "Notaries of Palermo," (this is Part One) has been arranged chronologically and is complete in itself, with its own set of indices. This volume of the Documentary History of the Jews in Italy is the second of the second series, illustrating the history of the Jews in Sicily based on notarial and court records. It is the sequel to the eight volumes of the first series. Notarial deeds drawn up by public notaries in Palermo and elsewhere and cases brought before the Pretorian Court in Palermo present a kaleidoscopic picture of the private lives of the Jews of Sicily during the last three centuries of their presence on the island. They illustrate the economic, social and religious history of the Jewish minority and the relations with the Christian majority. Much information is provided on trade and commerce, crafts and professions, religious and family life. Some light is thrown also on the internal life of the communities, particulary the larger ones, including organization and institutions, the synagogue, education, customs and traditions. Although the surviving legal deeds present only a fraction of the total drawn up in those years, they are copious and abundant. Over 30,000 documents of this group were selected for publication. While some documents were dealt with at length, most had to be presented in summary form, giving only the bare essentials. Most appear here for the first time. The volume is provided with additional bibliography and indexes, while the introduction will appear at the end of the series. (Publisher) Contents: Preliminary Material /; S. Simonsohn --; Documents /; S. Simonsohn --; Indexes /; S. Simonsohn. (OCLC) Volume 48.3 (Part One) of the Brill series, "Studia Post Biblica.".

Hardcover. Condizione: near fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: fine. First edition. Octavo. xi, (1), (9685)-10430pp. Indices. Text in English with some Italian. Blue cloth lettered in gilt, publisher's device on front cover. An ex-library copy but with minimal markings (rubber stamp on title page & bottom of text block), otherwise fine. "[This] last volume confirms once again the importance of Simonsohn's documentary series for students of Italian, Sicilian and Jewish matters, from late antiquity to early modern times. The coherence of both modes of collection and organization of materials, together with copious amount of data and suggestions for further study, continue to spoil scholars and researches who, in years, have come to immensely appreciate the convenience and richness of this comprehensive collection."
