Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. None stated (illustratore). The Eversley edition of this biography on Jane Austen written by her nephew J. E. Austen Leigh, bound with 'Lady Susan' and two other unfinished works by the celebrated author. From Macmillan's 'Eversley series'. The memoir was first published in 1869. The memoir combined with 'Lady Susan' was first published in 1871 then transferred to Macmillan & Co in 1898.Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece produced for the memoir and illuminated letters. This volume includes the memoir of Jane Austen combined with 'Lady Susan', an epistolary novella which Austen did not submit for publication, and two other unfinished works. This biography on Jane Austen was written by her nephew James Edward Austen-Leigh who lovingly referred to her as 'dear Aunt Jane'. The work was compiled from memories and papers from Jane Austen's relatives, although deciding which elements of her life should be kept secret from the public caused some disagreements between the family members and resulted in Austen's sister, Cassandra Austen, destroying many of her letters to keep some elements of her life private. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with fading to the spine resulting in loss to the the gilt title, slight marks to the boards, a very slight lean, bumping to the extremities prominently to the head and tail of the spine and the odd very minor closed tear to the joints. Very light spotting and offsetting to the endpapers. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear. Very Good. book.
