One of 130 copies to include an original rubbing, from a total limited edition of 230 copies, signed by the author. Linen, 4to, paper cover-label, [5], 13, [1] pp, original rubbing tipped-in (as issued), plates, ills. From the introduction - "The monogram for the Society of Printers, originally designed in 1905 by Bruce Rogers, derives from letters cut in the inscription at the base of the Trajan Column in Rome, where "S" and "P" are fortuitously juxtaposed in the very first line (SENATVS POPVLVSQVE). Awareness of this fact, plus a note in a Spring issue of Publishers Weekly in 1969, indicating the impending visit of Father Edward M. Catich to Rome, encouraged Harold Chevalier, then President of the Society, to commission Father Catich to undertake a rubbing of that inscription for the Society. The idea was accepted with alacrity, and the commission was carried out; but only after considerable correspondence back and forth and discussion among Society members, was it finally decided how the work should be presented to members of the Society [a] solution occurred to the Publications Committee when it was learned that not one, but two rubbings had been made. It was decided that one would be kept rolled in its tube for protection, to be maintained with Society archives in the Mugar Memorial Library at Boston University, where it would be available for study at any time; the second, done on 100% rag-content paper, would be cut down to the size of individual letters and combinations of letters, for insertion into booklets, which would be made available to members of the Society." Copy 113. Signed by the author on the limitation page. Near Fine in the plain unlettered dustwrapper which is edgeworn with small loss.
