Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Original tan printed wraps 22x31cm. pp359-424 including b/w maps, drawings, plans + (17)pp b/w photos on glossy paper. Covers good or better, with small ms amendment to the front, and minor loss to spine tail, interiors very good. Very rare in this form, with only 4 locations on Worldcat (Mainz University, Danish Union Catalogue, Royal Danish Library, Mohammed bin Rashid Library), not recorded on Library Hub. Inscribed inside the front wrap "Til Glob med bedste hilsener, fra Karen". Peter Glob (1911-85), Frifelt's teacher at the University of Aarhus, had inspired her interest in Gulf archaeology. Glob had travelled to Bahrain at Geoffrey Bibby's suggestion to explore Dilmun culture. In 1954 he discovered the Temple of Barbur, which Danish expeditions excavated during 1954-62. Frifelt worked with Glob and Bibby's Danish expeditions in Bahrain during 1959-65, before, with Glob's encouragement, moving to the UAE, where she worked at various locations including Buraimi, Hili and Umm an-Nar. This led her to propose a link between the societies of the Oman Peninsula and Mesopotamia, suggesting that the UAE in antiquity "was anything but peripheral". In 1972 she discovered and excavated tombs in Wadi Suq, and in 1975 established parallels between material culture here and on Bahrain (Soren Blau, "Out of Anonymity", Arab. arch. epig. 2004: 15: 11?19).
