Aunque mejor traducción que las anteriores, esta que ofrecemos no se libró de las críticas ya en el mismo momento de aparecer. Así, en el número de octubre del Journal des sçavans (pp. 591-597), se recogía la aparición de la traducción a la que se acusaba de no transmitir el espíritu de Gracian, de añadir demasiados comentarios y de hacer algunas traducciones extravagantes.
