Libro Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Howard Leigh (the Biggles illustrator); Stanley Orton Bradshaw (illustratore). 1st Edition. An uncommon title having the advantage of four Biggles author, W. E. Johns' stories and up to eight superb illustrations by the greatest aircraft illustrator of his time: Howard Leigh (brother-in-law to WE Johns). Thick quarto hardback in illustrated boards with red cloth spine, plain end-papers (child's hand-written name: Lynne Brown, age 9, 248 pages (almost nine inches tall), soft white paper with easy-read larger size text for the target market. Published in either 1936 (publisher's code) or 1938 (BL). Four stories by W. E. Johns, three by Geo. E. Rochester, one by both William Hansboro and "Vigilant". Dramatic and attractive pen and ink illustrations within the text (unsigned). Eight illustrations, as called for, four in full colour and four in greyscale. The binding is tight and strong though the board covers are worn to some edges and corner points. The plain grey paper to back board is marked. A few inner edges are opening where the illustrations (different paper) have been originally attached but not affecting the binding strength. The eighth plate has been professionally strengthened. All pages are toned, mostly uniformly, and more so to fore-edge when opposite an illustration. Some plates are consequently mottled to the white border though not affecting the illustration. This type of effect will be common to most if not all copies of the book due to paper quality and offsetting.
