Red cloth with gilt titles and slightly chipped and marked dust-jacket. Lightly foxed on fore-edge, o/w a clean copy. The trial of the notorious English poisoner of possibly 14 people whose trial in 1856 made legal history. Palmer was a gambler and always short of money. His wife and brother died after Palmer had insured them and his creditors and illegitimate children went the same way. He was tried for the murder of his racing companion John Parsons Cook.
