Hardcover, 8vo. First American edition, stated. 249 pgs. Tight binding, clean title stamping, no internal defects. Jacket has some light scuffs at head, and a thin scrape on the back panel. Lessing wrote under a pseudonym to see if she could be successful without recognition as a famous author, and the books sold well. Very good condition in very good dust jacket.
Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. F. NY: Knopf, 1984. First American edition. New in dust jacket, with just a touch of wear to the extremeties of the jacket. A difficult copy to find in excellent condition due to the delicate dust jacket. Lessing wrote the book and sent it to pubslihers under a false name and stumped them all except for the editors at Knopf, who recognized the wrok as hers. A nice tight unread copy. 0.0.

Hardcover. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. First Edition. 250 pages. A novel by the Nobel Prize-winning author, published under a pseudonym as a stunt, to show the treatment of books by unknown authors. ''I wanted to highlight that whole dreadful process in book publishing that 'nothing succeeds like success,' '' she said in a recent telephone conversation from London. ''If the books had come out in my name, they would have sold a lot of copies and reviewers would have said, 'Oh, Doris Lessing, how wonderful.' As it is, there were almost no reviews, and the books sold about 1,500 copies here and scarcely 3,000 copies each in the United States.''--Lessing, in the New York Times, September 23, 1984. Lessing's long-time British publisher declined to publish either of the two 'Jane Somers' novels before they knew the author was Lessing. First edition (first printing). Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with some wear at the corners. Signed by the author as Doris Lessing.
