Jim Kirker, frontier fighter and border entrepreneur, was one of the outstanding figures in the early development of the American Southwest. He was born in Ireland, came to New York, served on an American privateer in the War of 1812, then went west with Ashley and Henry's expedition up the Missouri, rode wagon trains between St. Louis and Santa Fe, worked a mine in Chihuahua, became a Mexican citizen, married a senorita and raised a family. He also had success in dealing with the Apaches and was recruited by the Mexican Government to pursue them and later joined the Missouri Volunteers in the Mexican-American War. After that he drifted between NM and California where he died an alcoholic. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket. Two newspaper clippings are laid in that give even more information about Kirker.
