Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good+ dj. 1st U.S. edition. [nice clean copy, minimal shelfwear; slight browning to jacket spine and right edge of front panel, light soiling to rear panel, very minor wear at extremities]. (B&W photo frontispiece) Drama about a man whose obsession with making his son (never seen on stage) a success drives him to rather extreme measures. The original stage play starred co-author Morley, Peggy Ashcroft (to whom the play is dedicated), and Ian Hunter; only Hunter was tapped for the 1949 film version directed by George Cukor, with the two principal roles being assumed by the more movie-boxoffice-friendly duo of Spencer Tracy and Deborah Kerr. (Morley did get to essay the role he created one more time, though, on TV's "United States Steel Hour" in 1955.).

Card Covers. Condizione: Very Good. Acting Edition. Octavo (printer's signatures at each eight leaves); 90pp., including stage sets etc. Copyright 1945; produced at His Majesty's Theatre, London, on May 30th, 1947 with Robert Morley and Peggy Ashcroft taking the lead rolls. A play in three acts. Some natural ageing of the paper, otherwise minor wear only. Probably about as nice a copy as you are likely to find of this somewhat ephemeral publication.
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. Dust Jacket. 8vo. pp. [x], 177. Portrait frontispiece of Robert Morley.Printed dedication to Peggy Ashcroft who played Evelyn Boult alongside Morley who played her husband Arnold in the play. Ink crossings out in the text and ink alternative cast made up of friends dated 1996 alongside the original printed cast. Original publisher's blue buckram lettered gilt on spine. Blue and white dust jacket lettered blue and white. Small presentation card loosely inserted with handwritten inscription 'With love Joan and Robert.' Later headed card from Sally Burton (Richard Burton's widow) with handwritten inscription 'From Richard's library and now for Sheridan love Sally.' The actor Robert Morley (1908 Ð 1992) and his wife Joan must have given the book to Richard Burton (1925 Ð 1984). After his death his widow gave it to Sheridan Morley the author's son, who was her neighbour. He was most probably responsible for the annotations in the text. Sheridan Morley (1941 Ð 2007) author, critic, broadcaster, biographer, and stage director wrote about many leading theatrical figures. The surname of the parents in this book is 'Holt', subsequently changed to 'Boult'. 'Edward, My Son' first played at the Lyric, Hammersmith in 1947 the following year it played on Broadway at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York City. A British/American film was made in 1949 starring Spencer Tracy and Deborah Kerr. Covers lightly marked, dust jacket torn with loss at head and foot of spine and corners, otherwise very good. Some general wear to covers and dust jacket, otherwise very good.
