Softcovers. Condizione: Very Good. First Softcover Edition. 1965. First paperback edition (the first hardback edition was in 1963). 158pp. plus a 2-page catalogue. Gil North was the pseudonym of Geoffrey Horne (1916-1988), a British author of detective stories. His novels about Sergeant Cluff, based in Yorkshire, were made into a television series, Cluff, by the BBC in the 1960s. This book is the fourth in the series. When the police are called to a crime scene at a Gunnarshaw grocer's shop, it looks to be a straightforward case of burglary - but not to Detective-Sergeant Cluff, whose subsequent investigations, following a boy's brutal discovery of a dismembered body on the moors, force him to confront the most gruesome murder he has ever faced. The book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the covers and the number '3' written on the top spine corner of the front cover. The spine is slightly browned. The contents are secure and clean with age-browning to the pages. There is no inscription.

Softcovers. Condizione: Very Good. First Softcover Edition. 1965. First paperback edition (the first hardback edition was in 1962). 159pp. plus a 1-page catalogue. Gil North was the pseudonym of Geoffrey Horne (1916-1988), a British author of detective stories. His novels about Sergeant Cluff, based in Yorkshire, were made into a television series, Cluff, by the BBC in the 1960s. This book is the third in the series. When Detective-Sergeant Cluff, on the lookout as ever, overhears a conversation in Gunnarshaw concerning the Amblers' estate in Egilsby, he grows suspicious. But when Colonel Ambler is found dead at the riverside, Cluff - unorthodox as ever - promptly embarks on a fishing trip to investigate, much to the despair of Inspector Mole. The book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the covers and the number '2' written on the top spine corner of the front cover. The spine and about 1/2" of the covers are sunned and there is a light crease running down the middle of the spine. The top of the spine is bumped. The contents are secure and clean with age-browning to the pages. There is no inscription.

Libro
Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. This is a history of the Austro-Prussian-Italian War of 1866, which paved the way for German and Italian unification. It is based upon extensive new research in the state and military archives of Austria, Germany, and Italy. Geoffrey Wawro describes Prussia's successful invasion of Habsburg Venetia, and the wretched collapse of the Austrian army in July 1866. Although the book gives a thorough accounting of both the Prussian and Italian war efforts, it is most notable for the light it sheds on the Austrians. Through painstaking archival research, Wawro reconstructs the Austrian campaign, blow-by-blow, hour-by-hour. Blending military and social history, he describes the terror and panic that overtook Austria's regiments of the line in each clash with the Prussians. He reveals the unconscionable blundering of the Austrian commandant and his chief deputies who fumbled away key strategic advantages and ultimately lost a war - crucial to the fortunes of the Habsburg Monarchy - that most European pundits had predicted they would win. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
