(18,5 x 11,5 cm). (16) 410, 73 (51) S. Pappband der Zeit. Seltene erste deutsche Ausgabe seiner "De l'électricité du corps humain". "In 1777 the Academy at Lyons had proposed as a subject for a prize essay, 'What are the diseases that depend on an increase or a decrease in the quantity of the electric fluid in the human body, and how may they be treated?' Bertholon was one of the successful competitors, and in 1780 he published a work entitled 'De l'électricité du corps humain' which incorporated his entry for the prize. His theory in brief was that human and animal bodies possess a spontaneous or animal electricity. His views on the electrical cause of disease had a certain influence on Galvani and provided an alternative to the doctrine that all disease was due to an over- or underexcitability of the tissues of the body" (Rowbottom/Susskind, Electricity and Medicine). - Exlibris. Einband stellenweise leicht ausgebleicht, sonst sehr sauber und gut erhalten. - Hirsch/H. I, 503; Blake 44; Ronalds 54; The Bakken 43; vgl.
