Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Ronay was actually born in Transylvania and participated in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, later decorated by the new President of Hungary. He became a linguist and historian and has published works on a range of topics, including books on Dracula. The Dracula Myth was one of these, and is a scholarly work tracing the influential cult of the vampire from pagan lore down to the present day. This is the first edition. This is a former library book but in fact has many positive attributes. See photos of all points mentioned here. Pages are bright and tidy, for the most part totally clean and unmarked. Exceptions are: a small cross in biro on FEP, a brown mark on first inside page, a library number stamp on title page, and an Essex county library sticker on the rear endpaper. Finally, one of the picture segments has slight unattaching though this hasn't spread to the spine and the photos remain well intact. Page edges are worn from use but not problematically so. DJ is unclipped and very nice, with a nicking at top of spine and slightly to corners though overall very good. Boards are good, just the slightest give. See all photos. This is a rare book especially in the DJ. Pp 180 many illustrations. Now protected in clear removable professional cover. See all photos.

Soft Cover. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. Stated First Published 1972 by W. H. Allen. This edition published 1975 by Pan Books, Ltd. Pictorial wraps, moderate shelf, corner wear. Cover depicts near cujo canines on black b.g. with red and white titles. Pages near fine; no writing. Several page photo-plate section of historical characters and locations. Bind good, square. Scarce near very good first British softcover edition. Presented here from enigmatic author Gabriel Ronay is a scholarly and fascinating study which traces the influential cult of the vampire. From its origins in pagan lore and Christian ritual to its depictions in modern horror cinema, Ronay identifies the true origins of Dracula. He traces the tales and lore from Ireland, Scotland and England across to Saxony, Italy, and the famed Transylvania peaks of eastern Europe to the wilds of Russa. Concise and well written digestible account of the terrific tales across Europe. From pagan blood-lore and the sadistic games of Countess Bathory to Nazi mysticism to the perversions of modern horror films. This fascinating survey describes unbelievable atrocities, historical barbarities, and the true nature and practice of European vampirism. Engendered by mass hysteria and sexual fantasy, the myth was exploited by Church and State alike from the Middle Ages onwards. Deeply rooted in the subconscious, the tradition is by no means dead or in danger of dying. Includes detailed index. Printed in Great Britain by Richard Clay (Chaucer Press) Bungay, Suffolk. 190 pages. Insured post. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
