Both the volume and the dustwrapper are very smart. This edition features an introduction by C. Lewis Hind. Stephen Phillips was a English poet who first caught the attention of the critics with the publication of his poem 'Christ in Hades'. Alongside his poetical work, Phillips was a dramatist whose plays were frequented by the Royal Family and other nobility. Illustrated throughout with numerous plates by Stella Langdale. Having formed a close working relationship with the publisher's John Lanes and Dodd Mead and Co, Langdale illustrated a vast quantity of book throughout her lifetime. This particular copy is held in the original uncipped dustwrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding and held the original unclipped dustwraper. Externally smart, with light bumping to the spine and extremities. Light offsetting to the front and rear endpapers. The dustwrapper is smart. Light chips to the head of the spine, with rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Small tear to the head of the front fly leaf joint, no more than 1cm. Light offsetting to the front of the wrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Fine. book.
