Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. Limited Edition. The life of Saint Clare, the founder of the female wing of the Franciscan rule. She was born in Assisi. She was a contemporary of St. Francis and was blessed by him to found her Order of Poor Clares. She was canonised in 2 years after her death. Ugolino Verino (1438-1516) was a Latin poet at the court of Lorenzo Medici. The book itself represents an edition of Saint Clare life-story. The original manuscript was purchased by Mr.St. John Hornby at he Vernon Sale in 1918, - specifies Walter Seton in the introduction. The facsimile plates of the four first pages of the manuscript are included. Printed on the high quality Japanese paper. The initials are in blue and the rubricated portions are in red. Stylized in gothic. Original vellum binding with the green silk ribbons. Ex-libris of D.St. Clair Mander on the flyleaf. Foxing on the fore-edge. Slightly discoloured vellum. Near fine to fine copy. Text in Latin and English. Limited edition. 236 copies.
