First thus edition hard back binding in publisher's original faded light green paper over stiff boards, green cloth spine, gilt title lettering to the front cover, different illustrations to the paste downs. 4to. 11½'' x 9¼''. The Rubáiyát has unnumbered pages comprising 75 quatrains enriched with 17 full-page single-sided and vignette monochrome illustrations throughout by William George Stirling. Stated first edition to the title page and stamped number 427 of a limited edition of 1000 (?) copies, colophon for Fraser & Neave Ltd., Singapore to the last leaf. Issue heavily discussed and commented on by the Rubáiyát collectors, which alternates between ornamentation, symbolism and esotericism due to the oriental and art nouveau character of the illustrations. The second sheet with a monogram 'WGS' William George Stirling. Sheet 29 with hand-blacked over-painting of the symbolic genitals of the female figure. Irregular sun fading to the the covers, foxing to the end papers, beyond which the sheets used are a superior quality and are in Fine condition. Member of the P.B.F.A. Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.
