CONDITION: Good Minus; "Little Andrew from his Mama with a Merry Christmas, 1881" and in later handwriting, "Given to Laura K's Brother when he was a boy" white of binding and most pages quite soiled, spine and rear hinge taped, crease on back cover. Toploader small softcover story. A sweet little series with coloured illustrations in imitation of Kate Greenaway and nice line drawings all by the same hand in the three little books I have seen. The stories alternate between child centered ones (silhouettes, sometimes comic) blowing bubbles, a letter from the Post-Man, and adult issues (drawings) most of these dealing with temperance, unlike the earlier ones in this series, making an interesting little book for a child. Monster goes out in the city looking for a friend, but returns very sadly. and there is a little boy sitting on the stoop who will play with him and be his best friend! A reader, but well written enough to stand as a picture book, with expressive pictures by Quentin Blake. Written with children.
