Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. A nice, tight and clean copy. Spine is bumped and slightly torn at the top. A superb introduction to the Arthurian Mysteries, the Holy Grail, Early Christianity in Britain, Terrestrial Alignment (Leys), the Somerset Zodiac and Sacred Proportional Architecture! I think the book provides a good starting point for those keen to learn more about the above subjects but feel it's all too complex and vast an area (which it is but that's why we love it!). A good way to decide on which area to concentrate your study efforts. Also provides a good introduction to the better known writers in these fields. Don't worry, they will start to become more familiar as you read their other books. This book 'chose me' in 1992 and after reading it I decided to move to the UK from New Zealand and thus began a 2 year field study (in between working) of the Arthurian and related subjects. This book has proved to be a useful point of reference and has travelled with me while roaming around Somerset in my backpack between my Ordnance Survey maps and my lunch!.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. First edition first printing of a near fine hardcover, with an unfortunate publishers error which caused the bottom corners of last blank page and the rfep to be glued underneath the bottom corner of the rear pastedown. BOOK: Previous Owner Markings; Spine Boards, Bumped; Light Shelf Rub to Boards; Edges Lightly Soiled. DUST JACKET: Lightly Creased; In Archival Quality Jacket Cover. SYNOPSIS: What kind of woman would leave her husband, her children and her home to live behind the Iron Curtain and work for the KGB? From the brilliant Oxford graduate who understands the espionage game better than most of her male colleagues, to the beguiling woman who uses her charm and brains to deceive everyone around her, Fiona Samson presents a fascinating puzzle. In her relationship with her father, who wanted her to be a boy, and taught her the lifetime habits of secrecy, in her love for Bernard and her children, in the illicit affair with a mystery lover, or in her work for the KGB, we see her torn by conflicting and complex needs: driven by an ambition she cannot assuage, haunted by passions she dare not express. Spy Sinker is a novel of many interlocking puzzles, for with the third person narrative comes a very different picture of characters we thought we knew so well from previous books: Bret Rensselaer, facing the breakup of his marriage, while secretly infatuated with Fiona. Werner Volkmann; Bernard has never doubted that he knew everything about his best friend. Nothing could be further from the truth. And as for Bernard himself - he is by no means the paragon his own accounts would have us believe, nor is girlfriend Gloria's view of him exactly what he imagines. Conceived from the beginning as one complex plot, Deighton's great saga ends, like Spy Line, in 1987 when Fiona's mission is complete. As the curtain falls, Deighton invites us to assess for ourselves what the labyrinthine plot has cost in human terms for Bernie, Gloria, Bret, and most particularly, Fiona Samson herself - Deighton's first great female lead character. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Some very slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, not price clipped (£12.99), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg++ copy. 328pp, illustrated with maps. 330BC: it is the year that Alexander the Great sacked Persepolis and won the greatest fortune the world had ever known. The night of the Silent Dinner when Athens placates the spirits of the dead passes with a creeping mist accompanied by eerie portents and a strange disappearance. Stephanos, son of Nikiarkhos and his teacher, the philosopher Aristotle, are drawn into solving the perplexing abduction case of Anthia, the heiress of a prominent silver merchant. Someone has snatched her from her home, but what is the motive: rape, a forced marriage or murder? All that is known is that the abductor and the heiress are on the road to Delphi and its ancient oracle. Stephanos and Aristotle pursue them but along the way there are plenty of distractions: it's spring time and the country is full of reborn life, the thought of romance and marriage is never far from young Stephanos' mind, and rumours of mysterious strangers passing in the night abound, of disguises and swapping of identity. Then the actuality of murder shatters the idyll. It seems that there is a psychopath on the road pursuing abductor and heiress. But who the abductor is and who the murderer is are mysteries that only Aristotle with the aid of the Delphian oracle will be able to solve.

And seven years since his untimely death, his reputation of one of Britain's greatest comics shows no sign of shrinking. Despite his reputation for idleness, Cook was a prolific writer, who penned countless outrageous sketches and articles, some of these pieces have never been published before, other are out of print and many have only ever been seen or heard. Consisting of forty of Cook's finest pieces, this book will include his first writings from school and university, taking in his writing with Alan Bennett, Jonathan Miller and Dudley Moore, the Pete & Dud and Derek & Clive dualogues, selections of his satirical journalism for Private Eye, his last ever interview and transcripts from his final television performance along with rare photographs of Cook, many previously unpublished.
