Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Herpetologist Thomas Barbour bound these two volumes in sumptuous maroon morocco leather and marbled boards, with gilt lettering and raised bands on the spines; nine months after Barbour's death, the two volumes were bequeathed to the library of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, of which he had been director. Deaccessioned by that library; bindings have edgewear; the marbled portions of the covers are rubbed; when these volumes were rebound in leather, the original gray printed wrappers were removed; outer edges have minor soil; pages in both volumes have some wear; many pages in volume 1 have faint vertical crease down center; pages at back of volume 2 have bottom-corner crease; text clean. Volume 1: Branchiostomidae to Polynemidae (605 p.) -- Vol. 2. Scombridae to Aceratiidae (p. [606]-1493); both volumes are well illustrated. A beautiful set with intriguing provenance. Mailing this large, heavy set outside the United States will cost much more than is specified by the shipping matrix. [otob: 35r].
