Hardcover first edition - First US printing. The author's first novel, a cult classic now, which burst on the scene in the late 60s with a record high advance (for the time) when Diment was just 23, and with extravagant praise - this introduced Philip McAlpine, a less uptight Bond, a morally ambiguous spy who was no stranger to drugs and who embraced the permissive society. Ian Fleming had died a couple of years earlier, the Bond movies were big hits, LeCarre had begun publishing his Smiley novels and the book trade was eager to capitalize on the spy market - and this book delivered. An early review said it had "modernity, sex appeal, enormous speed, cheekiness, high-tension, some four-lettered words and great originality." Diment himself was part of the appeal - the back cover of the dust jacket features a photograph of him, smiling broadly beneath his blond mop-top, grooving down the Kings Road flanked by two miniskirted women. 187 pp. Fine in a very near fine dust jacket.

Cloth. Condizione: Very Good Indeed. Not Stated (illustratore). First edition. Bright first editions of three mystery and thriller novels, in the original dust wrappers. The first editions of these three works in the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original unclipped dust wrappers to The Evil That Men Do and The Dolly Dolly Spy, and the original price-clipped dust wrappers to The Turquoise Lament. A collection of three thrilling novels from three different mystery writers. The Evil that Men Do (1966) is the third novel in the Hotel Manager Pierre Chambrun series by Judson Philips (1903-1989), under his pseudonym Hugh Pentecost. This novel involves a blood-chilling shoot-out in New York's top luxury hotel, The Beaumont, presided over by the hotel's unpredictable manager Pierre Chambrun. This work is uncommon to see.The Dolly Dolly Spy (1967) is the first of four novels featuring the adventures of Philip McAlpine, by Adam Diment. McAlpine is blackmailed by British Intelligence into an assignment as a professional spy. In his new role, he works as part of International Charter Incorporated, a cargo and passenger service which guarantees to fly anything anywhere, for a price. The Turquoise Lament (1975) is the fifteenth novel in the Travis McGee series by John D. MacDonald (1916-1986). It focuses on McGee's involvement with an old acquaintance, Pidge, who believes her husband Howie Brindle is trying to kill her to acquire her considerable inheritance. This work is uncommon to see. In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with two original unclipped dust wrappers and one original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition to all volumes, with just one small mark to the front board of Turquoise Lament. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the fore edge and first couple of pages to Evil that Men Do and Turquoise Lament. Dust wrappers are generally bright and smart, with faint marks to the wrap of Evil that Men Do, and a little chipping to the head of the spine to Dolly Dolly Spy. Light shelf wear to the rear of the wraps to Dolly Dolly Spy. Very Good Indeed. book.
