Prima edizione Copia autografata
First American edition of Bram Stoker's masterpiece, the progenitor of the vampire genre which remains â arguably the most potent literary myth of the twentieth centuryâ (Leatherdale, 11), signed by him and a host of other actors who portraed vampires. Octavo, original pictorial beige cloth stamped in blue and gilt. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Harry Powers from Bram Stoker 16 May 1900." Subsequently from the collection of George W. Fuller with his bookplate to the pastedown, then Forrest "Forry" J. Ackerman who dedicated his life to building what many consider to have been the worldâ s largest personal collection of science fiction, fantasy and horror memorabilia. Ackerman purchased the book in the early 1950s and throughout the years had actors who had portrayed vampires, as well as other members of the horror genre, sign the book. Additionally inscribed on the front free endpaper by Bela Lugosi who starred as Count Dracula in the 1931 American film adaptation, "To my friend, Forrest Ackerman, in remembrance, Bela Lugosi" and signed by him again, "Bela Lugosi." Additionally signed and inscribed on the front free endpaper and pastedown by over a dozen legends of horror cinema including Christopher Lee (who starred as Count Dracula in the 1958 English film adaptation), Vincent Price, Bill Obbagy, Ingrid Pitt, Karl Freund, Donald A. Reed, Barry Atwater, Maila Nurmi "Vampira", Carla Laemmle, Carroll Borland, John Carradine, Raymond McNally, Ferdy Mayne, Paul Naschy, and Barbara Leigh. In very good condition with interior tape reinforcements to the hinges, rebacked. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. A unique example, exceptionally rare and desirable signed by Stoker, Lugosi and such an assemblage of icons of the horror genre. First published in 1897, Bram Stoker's Dracula remains "[t]he world's most influential and enduring supernatural novel of vampirism, starring the most celebrated and evocative character in macabre literature" (Dalby). Contemporary reviews compared Stokerâ s masterpiece favorably to Mary Shelleyâ s Frankenstein, Emily Bronteâ s Wuthering Heights, and Poeâ s The Fall of the House of Usher. Since then it has engendered â arguably the most potent literary myth of the twentieth centuryâ (Leatherdale, 11). Related through letters, diary entries, and newspaper articles, the epistolary novel opens with solicitor Jonathan Harker taking a business trip to stay at the castle of a Transylvanian nobleman, Count Dracula. Harker escapes the castle after discovering that Dracula is a vampire, and the Count moves to England and plagues the seaside town of Whitby. A small group, led by Abraham Van Helsing, investigate, hunt and kill Dracula. Dracula continues to occupy a significant position in the literary canon with a legacy of hundreds of adaptations for the stage and screen, most notably the 1931 American supernatural horror film starring Bela Lugosi and the 1958 English gothic horror film starring Christopher Lee as Count Dracula. â Bram Stoker has given us the most remarkable scenes of horrorâ ¦ Dracula is a panting engine of late Victorian sexuality, a sexuality that has been barely sublimated into violenceâ (Stephen King).

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition, First Printing, First Issue First Edition, First Printing, First Issue with one blank leaf at the back of the book with no advertisement, WITHOUT the ad for the Shoulder of Shasta, WITHOUT any terminal catalogue; and printed on thicker stock with uncut page edges. Early printings of Dracula come in various states. Copies with a blank final text leaf and no pages of adverts are considered the earliest as all copies. The letter is dated 27-9-97, and signed by Bram Stocker in full signature ?Bram Stoker?. The book is accompanied by a laid in single page Autograph letter Signed on writing paper of Henry Irving?s 1897 tour, (specifically from Birmingham). Signed by Bram Stoker in his rare full signature ?Bram Stoker?. Stoker was manager of the Lyceum Theatre and Irving?s secretary from 1878-1898. The boards otherwise have fading, age toning and a few spots of discoloration to the cloth covers. Original end papers present, but with the front fly leaf paper absent and with a very small 1/2? intact tear to the top of the last 3 pages (now archivally repaired). Otherwise, all pages present and the interior of the book is remarkably clean with maybe only one or two dots of handling marks. Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. This 1897 first edition, second impression of Dracula, by Bram Stoker, is a rare find in its original, unrestored condition. Unlike most copies, which have been repaired or rebound, this edition has avoided alterations by restorers. Mild general overall handling, head and foot of spine fine, outer hinges fine, back corners still square, inner hinges just starting, ding to the head of spine affecting the first 2 letters in Dracula, 2 short closed tears to text, small red ownership stamp to front blank endleaf and half title otherwise internally clean and bright, housed in a red morocco backed clamshell slipcase. Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. Hutchinson, London. 1897 first UK edition (rare colonial issue) with cancel title page, occasional scattered spotting, ink stamp to front free endpaper, modern yellow morocco letter in red, in imitation of the first edition binding. The existence of this colonial issue only came to light relatively recently, with most copies appearing in decidedly poor condition. The colonial issue adheres to all of the first issue points (printed on thicker paper and without any advertisements) one might expect and was very likely to have been printed along with the very earliest of the first edition copies. It was not unusual for publishers to hand over responsibility for distributing these overseas editions as appears to be the case here. A true Stoker rarity. The Colonial Issue is in fact rarer than the traditional first UK printing. An unique collector's item to obtain this first edition of one of the greatest horror novels in literary history.

Prima edizione
First edition of this posthumous short story collection assembled by Bram Stoker's widow, who claims in the preface that "Dracula's Guest" is a "hitherto unpublished episode from 'Dracula' . . . originally excised owing to the length of the book." That origin story remained unchallenged for years: "Dracula's Guest" was even reprinted in an edition of Dracula, restored to its assumed place. The discovery of Stoker's original manuscript of Dracula in 1984 called into question the lost chapter theory, and there remains no consensus on whether he intended "Dracula's Guest" to be included in the novel. The story describes the narrator's encounter with a mysterious "wolf - and yet not a wolf!" on Walpurgis Night, "when, according to the belief of millions of people, the devil was abroad - when the graves were opened and the dead came forth and walked. When all evil things of earth and air and water held revel." The first state of the dust jacket, while recorded, is exceptionally rare; this second state jacket, priced at "2/-" is also elusive. Bleiler 1551; Dalby 22a. An attractive copy of a controversial work of horror fiction. Single volume, measuring 7.25 x 4.75 inches: [viii], 200. Original scarlet cloth, upper board and spine stamped in blind, gilt titling to spine, original unclipped color pictorial dust jacket (second state). Ink ownership signature and library stamp to front free endpaper. Lower edge of front board faded, scattered foxing, expert restoration to jacket.
