Typescript of Powell's fantastical play The Garden God, set on an archaeological dig in Greece. The play was set to be produced in 1965 by Willie Donaldson; however, after several extensive lunches, Donaldson abruptly dropped the project and the play failed to be staged. The typescript has the stamp of Powell's theatrical agent Margery Vosper (1912-1981) to the title page above the struck-through address of Motion Pictures & Theatrical Investments Ltd. Alongside her role as theatrical agent Vosper was a prolific screenwriter and manager of the literary agency Margery Vosper Ltd., previously Dorothy Allen Ltd. The play was first published in book form with Powell's only other play The Rest I'll Whistle, in 1971 under the title Two Plays. No other copies of this typescript have been traced institutionally or at auction. Large octavo. Original orange wrappers, bound with 2 metal paper fasteners, titles in black to front wrapper, text to rectos only in typescript. Wrappers lightly marked and a little creased at edges, a near-fine copy.
