First edition in English, second impression (following the first on 1934), of one of the seminal books of 20th-century economic history, acclaimed as "the outstanding historical study of mercantilism in all its phases" (Blaug, p. 31), and "a pioneering effort to delineate the major themes of economic ideas and policy in Western Europe during some four or five centuries" (Coats, p. 35). The work first appeared in Swedish in 1931; this translation was prepared from the German edition and revised by the author. Mark Blaug, Economic History and the History of Economics, 1986; A. W. Bob Coats, On the History of Economic Thought, 2005. Two volumes, octavo. Original green linen-grain cloth, spines lettered in gilt, top edges green. Cloth. Condizione: Good. None (illustratore). The translated edition of one of the seminal books of 20th-century economic history. Two volumes. The English translation, prepared from the German edition and revised by the author, published in 1935. First published in Swedish in 1931. A historical study of mercantilism in all its phases, this work is seen as a pioneering effort to delineate the major themes of economic ideas and policy in Western Europe. Written by Eli F. Heckscher, a Swedish political economist and economic historian. Translated by Mendel Shapiro. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. An ink mark to the front board of volume one. Discolouration to the spines. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with an occasional spot. The odd annotation to the page and study notes written on separate paper pasted to the margins of some pages. This does not interfere with the reading. Cotham Secondary School stamp to rear endpapers. Good. book.
