Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. In the long, hot Roman Summer of AD74, Marcus Didius Falco, private informer and spare-time poet, gives a reading for his family and friends. Things get out of hand as usual. The event is taken over by Aurelius Chrysippus, a wealthy Greek banker and patron to a group of struggling writers, who offers to publish Falco's work - a golden opportunity that rapidly palls. A visit to the Chrysippusscriptorium implicates him in a gruesome literary murder so when Petronius Longus, the over-worked vigiles enquiry chief, commissions him to investigate, Falco is forced to accept. Lindsey Davis' twelfth novel wittily explores Roman publishing and banking, taking us from the jealousies of authorship and the mire of patronage, to the darker financial world, where default can have fatal consequences. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

20 Volumes, all 1st Editions, 1st Impressions. 16.3 x 24 cm original boards with gilt stamped titles to the spine and original dust jackets. Each copy is signed, 5 are also dated (in the year of publication), two have an inscription (to the same person) and Shadows in Bronze is signed twice (on the half-title and title pages). The books are generally in at least near fine condition, noting some toning to page edges as per usual and two with mention-worthy bumps (Last Act in Palmyra has bumps to the bottom fore edge corners and A Body in the Bath House has a significant dent across the bottom edge). All dust jackets are at least near fine condition (though Venus in Copper has been price clipped), and are now protected in removable clear covers (not shown in our images). A really nice complete set of books. Due to the weight of these two volumes, postage will be at additional cost the weight of such a large set makes it economically unviable for shipping abroad, so, sadly, UK buyers only. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.
