Pomodoro designed a controversial fiberglass crucifix for the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Libro
Condizione: NUOVO. 2 voll.in cofanetto. cm.24x28, pp.775, 1057 fiogg.bn.e a col.nt. Libro Copia autografata
Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Arnaldo Pomodoro (illustratore). Limited Edition. In Italian. This is an offering of two separate items. The first is a signed and numbered (24/150) etching by the artist (see photo). It's in excellent condition. I don't see any issues. The photo should allow you to assess the condition. The second is the book, Colpo D'ala Di Arnaldo Pomodoro which is also signed and inscribed (also dated) by the artist (see photo). The book accompanied an exhibition in Los Angeles beginning on the 12th December1988 (the same date the book was signed). Both items were previously owned by husband-and-wife Dr. Herbert J. Kayden and Dr. Gabrielle H. Reem. Dr. Kayden was the esteemed former Governor and President of the New York Academy of Sciences, a renowned cardiologist and researcher known for a number of groundbreaking studies of lipoprotein disorders. Dr. Kayden also identified the genes responsible for abnormal synthesis of Vitamin E, a deficiency of which causes a devastating constellation of neurological symptoms. Dr. Reem spent a decade at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital as a clinician before joining the New York University School of Medicine as professor of pharmacology. The Kaydens were serious art collectors. 'They collected works of signature 20th century modern and contemporary artists, often through the development of friendships with artists, such as Jacques Lipchitz, Joan Miró and Nadia Léger. Dr. Reem?s purchase of a Henry Moore Reclining Figure in 1954, which had been in MoMA's lending program, engendered a lifelong pursuit of modern sculpture and a continued relationship with the artist well into the 1970s. As patrons of Edith Halpert's Downtown Gallery in the 1950s, the Kaydens not only developed deep friendships with Stuart Davis, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Charles Sheeler and Jacob Lawrence, but also acquired significant work by all these artists. Frequent visits with Arnaldo Pomodoro allowed the Kaydens to build one of the richest collections of his work.' Many of their works by Arnaldo Pomodoro were auctioned at Christies, several that I googled sold in the range of 50 to 70 thousand dollars. Many others were given as gifts to museums and art centers. Back to the book: It is in very nice shape. You can see the covers in the photos. I don't see any conspicuous soiling, perhaps a slight bit of handling soiling, perhaps just a little bit of the black blending into the gold. There is one small thin line on the black part of the front cover that brightens or lightens the black. The gilt lettering on the front and spine looks very good. There is a thin flat vertical crease on the spine, and just the slightest bit of wear at the spine ends. There is a small crease just under the front top corner. The cover edges and corners look very good. The page edges are very clean. The covers have French flaps. The are in excellent condition. A little of the black material of the inside front and rear covers got pulled onto the inside edge of each of the white end papers (see photo of the signed page). The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover. The covers themselves are nicely tight. There are no binding issues. The interior of the book is in excellent condition. The thick semi-glossy pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I haven't found any instances of soiling. I'm also not finding any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And the author's signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. There are a great many illustrations, a handful are in color. They are all in excellent condition. Inscribed by Author(s).
