Original cloth boards (hardback) colour uneven, mauve-beige, well used but clean and tight, uncut page edges, some wear to top and bottom of spine in the form of fraying, corners bowed, gilt lettering to spine, readable but faded. Neat inscription of a previous owner to front endpaper dated Nov. 1920. Internally cleaned but pages very slightly browned with age. 8.00 x 6.25 inches approx. Black and white illustrated frontispiece, 89 pages, contents clean and readable. On the reverse side of page 89 there is a printed list of cast members. 'Prunella was produced at the Royal Court Theatre, Sloane Square, London, on December 23, 1904 and was revived on April 24, 1906, with the following casts: the lists cover characters and players from 1904 and 1906. For instance in 1904 Granville Barker played Pierrot - in 1906 this role was played by W Graham Browne. Adjacent to this page is a page of advertisements for other plays published by A H Bullen. A collectable book for those who are interested in the Theatre, London Theatres, plays, performances, actors, actresses, literary works and Laurence Housman.

First Edition. 89pp. Condition: Covers worn at edges with some chips especially to tail of spine which has a small piece missing. ** Play by Laurence Housman (1865 - 1959), brother of the poet A.E.Housman, and Harley Granville-Barker (1877 - 1946). The protagonist of the play, Prunella, lives with her aunts Prim, Prude, and Privacy, until a traveling band of players comes to town, and Prunella runs off with the leader, Pierrot, to become his "Pierrette". It was made into a movie "Prunella" in 1918.
