Dawson at the Oxford Bible Warehouse, Pater-noster Row", 1783, the second printed by T. Harrison and S. Brooke, London, for the Company of Stationers, 1787. Contemporary red morocco, gilt, stamp on upper cover of "REVD DR DE SALIS", all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Spine slightly darkened and rubbed, some foxing of title-page of A New Version, and its early pages. The Sternhold Psalms was first printed in 1562, the Tate/Brady New Version in 1695. The well-connected Henry Jerome de Salis FRS (1740-1810), an alumnus of Queen's College, Oxford (DD 1777), was himself, from 1763, a Chaplain in Ordinary to George III; he was Rector of St Antholin, Watling Street, 1774-1810, and Vicar of Wing, Buckinghamshire, 1777-1810.

All edges originally gilt but only faint evidence of this. Another later previous owners name on reverse of frontispiece. The covers are quite rubbed and shelfworn, binding holding firmly. The page facing plate 22 has a three inch horizontal tear. Light browning to text throughout. Foxing to last few pages. Three works bound in one volume. The Whole Book Of Psalms has a separate title page, and was printed London: A Wilde for the Company of Stationers. 1748. The last few pages are trimmed a little close to the bottom edge. 235 by 185mm (9¼ by 7¼ inches).

The additions: "A Companion to the Alter" consists of pages 3 (title page) to 74 (Finis), pp 71 - 74 are defective at foot of page). "The Whole Book of Psalms" consists of 9 gatherings of, no pagination.Binding: contemporary full calf, decorated tooled floral device in cntre with similar decorated borders, originally gild but faded with wear. Rabcked with a new back strip and label with title gilt and gilt rules, binding is nicely tight and the whole robust. cropped close on top marginoriginal marbled endpapers.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. A late 18th century edition of the Book of Common Prayer, with the Psalms of David, bound with the Whole Book of Psalms, and Bound with a New Version of the Psalms of David. 4 works bound in 1 volume. This volume has been finely bound in tooled black morocco and bears the gilt crest and bookplate of the Bertie Family, Earls of Abingdon and Lindsey, and once the Dukes of Ancaster and Kesteven. Their lineage goes back as far as the 15th century and possibly earlier, with Richard Bertie and Katherine Willoughby being recorded in Foxes Book of Martyrs during the 16th century. There is also the bookseller's ticket for John Bally. Four works finely bound into one volume in quarto, largely unpaginated On note of condition, this volume is in very good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, largely to the spine and hinges. There is virtually no foxing or staining throughout.
