Vintage piano sheet music in illustrated brown card covers with three ships and Stephenson's Rocket to the front cover, twine binding. 12'' x 9½''. Contains 12 + 2 pages. Travelling Along is a fine collection of thirty short studies for pianoforte which was 'written with the purpose of surmounting a particular technical difficulty'. Foreword to the studies states that these 'should be memorised and transposed by ear into all the keys, beginning of course with the easier keys.' Technical points explored include rotary exercises, study in five time, arpeggio practice, a modern scale (actually mixolydian) and a legato study on the black keys. Each exercise is given a picturesque title, such as Sad Bells, The Dancing Girl, Spring in a Strange Land and Little White Butterflies. The work was highly praised by none other than the great Myra Hess: she writes 'These are delightful little studies, full of imagination, and instructive both musically and technically.' Finger soiling to the fore edges, small tears to the ends of the outside cover. Member of the P.B.F.A. SHEET MUSIC.

Publisher's original stapled plain card covers. 12'' x 9½''. Contains 24 printed pages of musical score for the piano, Foreword by Billy Mayerl. Born in 1902 on London's West End and by the age of 7 he was studying at the Trinity College of Music. By the time Mayerl was 20 he was resident pianist for a Southampton Hotel. It was there that British bandleader and saxophonist Bert Ralton first heard him, and instantly sought to hire him for his Havana Band at London's Savoy Hotel. From 1923 to 1926 Mayerl was a featured soloist with the band in the earliest years of the BBC. In 1926 Mayerl left the Havana band to pursue a solo career in recording and composition. While maintaining a schedule with the BBC, he also toured the UK performing in venues of all sizes, taking time off to create increasingly complex syncopation's for publication. More importantly, he started publishing not just his own works, but some transcriptions of other composer's pieces he had recorded. In the 1930s, Mayerl established a correspondence course 'The Billy Mayerl Club Magazine' for instruction in piano and composition. He spent the war primarily in London, although publishing very little during this time. Once peace had been re-established, Billy renewed his ties with radio. He also took his music to USA and Australasia. A heavy smoker, Billy finally died from a heart attack in 1959 at the tender age of 57. His post-war pieces have a mellow and classical line with a more melancholic composition, along with his unique sound of tenth's and fourth's, albeit wound around with more sophistication, one cannot help wondering what he would have written had he lived into the 1970s. Free from any tears and in Very Good clean condition. We currently hold in stock 65 other titles by Billy Mayerl. Member of the P.B.F.A. MAYERL, Billy (1902-1959).
