Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. First edition. Orange cloth with printed title label. Text block fallen slightly forward, else fine. Copy letter T of 26 lettered copies Signed by the author. Additionally Inscribed by Updike to Herb Yellin. Herb Yellin was the founder and publisher of Lord John Press and the most frequent of Updike's fine press collaborators. He named his press after noting that the list of authors he wanted to publish all shared the same first name, chief among them John Updike, his favorite. *Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu* became the press's first book in 1977 with 10 more to follow over the next 23 years. Yellin's friendship with Updike grew with each new limited edition benefitting his already enormous Updike collection, with Updike himself contributing copies of new editions of his books - often inscribed. In a 2010 interview with Yellin he noted that Updike ".liked that if anything ever happened to his own collection, he had my collection on the opposite side of the country." A notable association.

Prima edizione Copia autografata
Signed limited edition, special issue signed and numbered "R" on the limitation page, one of 26 lettered and hard-bound copies, inscribed on the first blank "For Anne Sissman, with admiration and affection, John", and with a typed letter to her, signed by John. From an edition limited to 276 signed copies. The recipient, Anne Sissman, was the wife of the poet Louis Edward "Ed" Sissman (1928-1976), to whom the first three sonnets are dedicated. The letter, dated March 13, starts "Dear Anne: I hope there is nothing in these first three sonnets to offend or sadden you; they were written out of a mood of love for Ed" and conveys Updike's delight at his friend's winning of the National Critics Circle Prize. Loosely inserted is a library slip for Commager's Immigration and American History with the pencilled inscription "Safe with Sissman". Octavo. Original orange cloth, titles in gilt to spine and printed in orange to paper label on front board, marbled endpapers. Title printed in orange and black. The binding sharp and vibrant, internally crisp; a fine copy.
