no binding. Condizione: very good. Thomas Hart Benton was an American politician who served as a United States Senator from Missouri. Born in 1782 in North Carolina, Benton moved to Tennessee and later Missouri, where he became a prominent figure in politics. Known for his strong advocacy of westward expansion and Manifest Destiny, Benton played a significant role in shaping American territorial and economic policies during the 19th century. He was a staunch supporter of Andrew Jackson and the Democratic Party, earning him the nickname "Old Bullion" for his unwavering support of hard currency. Benton's political career was marked by his fierce opposition to the national bank and his defense of states' rights. He served in the Senate for thirty years, from 1821 to 1851, making him one of the longest-serving senators in American history. Benton's legacy is complex, as he was both admired for his progressive views on westward expansion and criticized for his stances on slavery and Native American removal. Nonetheless, his impact on American politics and the expansion of the nation's territory cannot be overstated. 1858 Steel Engraving - Antique Print. Some nicks and use to the frames; one coin-sized tidemark and some extremely light foxing to the portrait of Ma Joad; portraits otherwise fine.
