With Spring just around the corner, this collection of flowers is the perfect way to indulge your passion for lace crochet. Trained as a mechanical enginr, Caitlin Sainio turned her technical skills to the art of thread crochet. Made in the colours of real flowers for an authentic look, the book displays close-up photographs of all 100 flowers in colour-themed groups with page references, enabling you to choose complementary varieties from spring yellows to pretty purples. The pattern section arranges the designs by difficulty, progressing from basic to intermediate and advanced designs, so there's something for crocheters of every skill level. Each pattern includes a clear photograph, chart, thread colours and lengths, and a guide to the dimensions of the completed piece. A small selection of projects provides ideas for how to use your lace flowers, including embellishing baby bootees, cushions or tea cosies. The 'basics' section provides advice on all the tools, materials and crochet techniques you'll need, including a refresher course on stitches, and a guide to making stems and leaves to accompany your flowers. This collection furthers the series of crochet motifs that Search Press do so well. This time, it is lace crochet flowers and leaves and they are a delight. There are several pages at the beginning of the complete works, in colour co-ordinated sections, giving visual comparisons of size and appearance of a lot of the flowers together. The instructions are simple, with diagrammatic patterns for those who prefer, as well as clear photos of the finished product. The number of different styles included is great news for anyone wanting to create a varied flower garden - you have dimensional, layered, frilly and sturdy variations all given here, so whatever kind of flower you would like to crochet, you will most likely find it in here. --Workshop on the Web
