Or, An Explication of the 14th Chapter of the Prophet Hosea, In seven Sermons preached upon so many Days of solemn Humiliation, By Edward Reynolds, D.D., Published by Authority, London, Printed for Henry Cripps, and Edward Farnham, and are to be sold at their Shops in Popes-head-Alley, 1658, Sermons 1 & 2: 96 pp, Sermons 3 & 4: 100 pp, Sermons 5, 6, & 7: 159 pp, 7.5 x 6", 8vo. In poor condition. As is. Leather boards heavily chipped at edges & worn at corners. Head and tail of spine lacking - binding exposed. No title label. Text-block is detached from leather spine. Front end-page and fly-leaf lacking - text begins at title page. Title page exhibits previous ownership signature and ink marginalia. Moderate toning around edges throughout text-block - however, text is still legible. Binding is split at 64-5 pp, 48-9 pp, and 88-9 pp. Instances of age-staining and finger-soiling present. Binding is broken - cording is broken. Please see photos and ask questions, if any, before purchasing. Edward Reynolds (1599-1676) was a bishop of Norwich in the Church of England and an author. He was born in Holyrood parish in Southampton, the son of Augustine (Austin) Reynolds, and his wife, Bridget. With the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642, Reynolds sided with the Presbyterians. In 1643, he was one of the Westminster Assembly divines, and took the covenant in 1644. In 1648, he became dean of Christ Church, Oxford and vice-chancellor of the University of Oxford. However, he lost the chancellorship in September 1650 due to refusing the engagement of 1651. The Engagement Controversy was a debate in England from 1649 1652 regarding loyalty to the new regime after Pridge's Purge and the execution of Charles I. After the death of Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658), he and other presbyterians sought an accommodation with Richard Cromwell, and on October 11th, 1658, on behalf of himself and other London presbyterian ministers, Reynolds delivered an oral address to the new protector. At the Restoration in 1660, he was made chaplain to Charles II. In the same year, he was elected warden of Merton College, Oxford, and made bishop of Norwich. In the Hebrew bible, Hosea, also known as Osee, son of Beeri, was an 8th-century BCE prophet in Isreal and the nominal primary author of the Book of Hosea. He is the first of the Twelve Minor Prophets, whose collective writings were aggregated and organized into a single book in the Jewish Tanakh by the Second Temple period but which are distinguished as individual books in Christianity. Hosea is often seen as "a prophet of doom," but underneath his message of destruction is a promise of restoration. The Talmud claims he was the greatest prophet of his generation. The period of Hosea's ministry extended to some sixty years, and he was the only prophet of Israel of his time who left any written prophecy. The only copy being sold at time of listing. Il periodo di recesso scade dopo 14 giorni dal giorno in cui tu o una terza parte, diversa dal vettore e da te indicata, acquisisce il possesso fisico dell'ultimo bene o dell'ultimo lotto o pezzo.
Per esercitare il diritto di recesso, compila e invia elettronicamente una dichiarazione esplicita sul nostro sito Web, alla voce “I miei acquisti” nella sezione “Mio account”. Ti comunicheremo senza indugio una conferma di ricezione di tale recesso su un supporto durevole (ad es. via e-mail).

Effetti del recesso
In caso di recesso dal presente contratto, ti rimborseremo tutti i pagamenti ricevuti, compresi i costi di spedizione (ad eccezione dei costi supplementari derivanti dalla tua eventuale scelta di un tipo di spedizione diverso dal tipo meno costoso di consegna standard da noi offerto).
Potremo effettuare una detrazione dal rimborso per la perdita di valore dei beni forniti, qualora tale perdita sia il risultato di una manipolazione non necessaria da parte tua.
Eseguiremo il rimborso senza indebito ritardo e non oltre 14 giorni dal giorno in cui saremo informati della tua decisione di recedere dal presente contratto.
Il rimborso sarà effettuato utilizzando lo stesso mezzo di pagamento da te usato per la transazione iniziale, salvo che tu non abbia espressamente concordato altrimenti; in ogni caso, non dovrai sostenere alcun costo quale conseguenza di tale rimborso.

Dovrai rispedire i beni o consegnarli a ROBIN RARE BOOKS at the Midtown Scholar, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., senza indebito ritardo e, in ogni caso, entro 14 giorni dal giorno in cui ci hai comunicato la tua volontà di recedere dal presente contratto. Il termine è rispettato se rispedisci i beni prima della scadenza del periodo di 14 giorni. I costi diretti della restituzione dei beni saranno a tuo carico. Sei responsabile solo della diminuzione del valore dei beni risultante da una manipolazione diversa da quella necessaria per stabilire la natura, le caratteristiche e il funzionamento dei beni stessi.
